Teaching Wood Design at New Mexico State University

Final session of my Spring 2025 Wood Design course at New Mexico State University with a great group of undergraduate and graduate students.

In Spring 2025, I taught Wood Design to a combined group of undergraduate and graduate students at New Mexico State University. The course covered key topics in wood structural engineering, including wood material properties, design values, beam design, column design, member stability, serviceability, and wood connections.

The course was based on the National Design Specification for Wood Construction (NDS) and the related supplements and design provisions of the American Wood Council. Throughout the semester, I emphasized the connection between code-based design procedures, structural engineering theory, and practical design judgment for real-world wood construction applications.
